2. Introduction • Origami is where a single square peace of paper is used to make animals such as a Butterfly or a bird. • The best known origami is mostly learnt for children's parent or grand parents is the paper crane. • Origami can be made in lots of other shapes flowers, crabs and even creation like Christmas trees • Origami is very important to Japanese people they believe that if they make a thousand paper cranes they will get a wish from the gods.

3. History • Papermaking was introduced to Japan from the Asian continent at the beginning of the seventh century. • Japanese people development a way to make a type of thin, durable paper that became know as washi. • At first it was mostly used for official recordkeeping and Buddhist religious writing. • Washi came to be used in Shinto religious rituals as well, and it became customary to wrap offerings to the gods and many other in paper. • Eventually people became to focus on particular ways to fold paper when wrapping gifts or offerings, and they developed formal folded ornaments to make the wrappings more attractive.

4. Sadako and the thousand paper cranes Sadako and the thousand paper cranes is a storey about a girl who lived in Hiroshima at the time of the atom bomb. She developed leukemia from the radiation and spent her time in a nursing home folding paper cranes in hope that she would fold one thousand which would let her make one wish from the gods which was to live. However she managed to fold 644 crane before she became to week to fold anymore, she died shortly after. Her friends and family helped finish her dream by folding the rest of her cranes which where berried with Sadako .

5. Origami Paper • To make origami you have to have a square piece of paper or u can buy origami paper. • The origami paper can be coloured, have different patterns and different texture. • When folding the paper make sure you press hard on the folds.

6. Instructions to make a paper crane 1. Start with a square piece of paper, colored side up. Fold the top corner of the paper down to the bottom corner. Crease and open again. Then fold the paper in half sideways. 2. Turn the paper over to the white side. Fold the paper in half, crease well and open, and then fold again in the other direction. 3. Using the creases you have made, Bring the top 3 corners of the model down to the bottom corner. Flatten model. 4. Fold top triangular flaps into the centre and unfold 5. Fold top of model downwards, crease well and unfold 6. Open the uppermost flap of the model, bringing it upwards and pressing the sides of the model inwards at the same time. Flatten down, creasing well. 7. Turn model over and repeat Steps 4-6 on the other side. 8. Fold top flaps into the centre. 9. Repeat on other side, so your model looks like this. 10. Fold both ‘legs’ of model up, crease very well, then unfold. 11. Inside Reverse Fold the “legs” along the creases you just made. 12. Inside Reverse Fold one side to make a head, then fold down the wings Finish Crane!!!!!
