  2. What is Applied Behavior Analysis? APPLIED • Using methods of science to change or teach behaviors that are useful to the person and to society BEHAVIOR • What we say, do, think, or feel ANALYSIS • Using scientific methods (i.e., data-based decision making) to figure out whether what we’re doing is working, and what to do next

  7. Why do we analyze behaviors? • To figure out what the behavior gets or gets out of for the student • To determine what behaviors to teach • To determine motivators • To determine whether students are learning • To assess effects of our efforts

The Role of Reinforcement • Provides a “reason” for the student to do that behavior again • Provides the motivation keep working until the task is done • Provides motivation for the student to behave well • “The effectiveness of a program will be largely dependent upon the strength of the reinforcers available for the student*” *Autism Partnership
