  1. Innovations in TLM

  2. Why TLM ? vTo develop favorable learning attitude •   The learner must be exposed to a rewarding learning environment • Be interested in the learning material in order to maintain interest. •     Children learn by constructing their own knowledge through a variety of learning processes across body, mind and spirit.

  3. What is Innovation ? Dictionary :– • Innovation is the introduction of something new or different. • Innovation is the implementation of creative inspiration.

  4. Some interesting definitions of INNOVATION are: – • Innovation is creativity with a job to do - John Emmerling • Innovation is people creating value by implementing new ideas. • Innovation = Invention + Exploitation • Innovation is all about the roles people can play, the hats they can put on.

  5. Innovation is ………… • the process that transforms ideas into educational value • the successful exploitation of new ideas • change that creates a new dimension of performance (Peter Drucker) • the process of making improvements by introducing something new

  6. Innovation requires….. • a fresh way of looking at things • an understanding of people • and an entrepreneurial willingness to take risks and to work hard

  7. Advantages of Innovation………….. • To develop a favourable learning attitude in students • The learner must want to learn, be exposed to a rewarding learning environment and be interested in the learning material in order to maintain interest • Children learn by constructing their own knowledge through a variety of learning processes across body, mind and spirit

  8. Barriers to Innovation……………….. • Lukewarm attitude towards innovation • Lack of motivation • Space crunch • Sheer laziness • Deficit budgets • Inconsistent use of innovation • Lack of exposure to Novelty and Innovation

  9. How do you find / foster Innovation? • Can you find innovation blind-folded or using the same lens? • Can you even look for Innovation? • Or does it just happen ?

  10. Innovation is coupled in some ways to imagination where every time you see something, you open your eyes to endless possibilities. Literally. According to Chuck Palus and David Horth, authors of The Leader's Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Navigating Complex Challenges, you need to “see with new eyes” in order to find innovation.

  11. Stand in different places Switch roles. This is the only way to learn and understand what is out there or in there. If you are the manager, become an employee. If you are a teacher, become a student.… • Use the lenses of other domainsAre you selling high tech gear? Well what if your buyer was shopping for groceries? How would you sell to that buyer? If your student is not interested what you teach find out what interests him / her … • Ask powerful questionsQuestions are not just for the devil’s advocate and to create doubts. There is no such thing as a silly question. Question everything about what you are trying to accomplish. Start with why, what, how, when, what if, so what, where and so on…

  12. Foster new knowledgeNew knowledge not only comes from your own domain, but when you are out there doing something else. Go attend a show in an unrelated field… • Create a visual verbal journalA picture says a thousand words. A journal to put down your thoughts visually will allow you to think about your ideas from various angles, and create clarity of thought. Wherever possible, doodle… • Change the pace of attentionThe key to leading groups and creating innovation is to slow them down and try to get the group to focus on a few key ideas initially. Give rankings to each idea by having everyone vote. To create is that moment of intuition or magic moment wherein group members can come up with an idea that everyone says “wow, let us explore that.” http://creativityandinnovation.blogspot.com/2006/10/six-ways-to-find-innovation.html

  13. Just think for a moment …… “How would schools be if there is no TLM and no ongoing innovation in TLM at the school level?”
