Agenda What are we covering today: • RDA 6.27.1.6 Commentary, annotations, illustrative content, etc., added to a previously existing work • LC Classification & Shelflisting Manual on criticism and commentaries, etc. (F632, F570, G340) What have covered: • Compilations vs. collaboration • Compilations of works by one creator • Compilations of translations/language editions

RDA 6.27.1.6 Commentary, etc. with original text If: the work consists of a previously existing work with added commentary, annotations, illustrative content, etc. and it is presented as the work of the person, family, or corporate body responsible for the commentary, etc. then: construct the authorized access point representing the work by combining (in this order): • the authorized access point representing the person (see 9.19.1), family (see 10.10.1), or corporate body (see 11.13.1) responsible for the commentary, etc., as applicable • the preferred title for the commentary, etc. (see 6.2.2).

RDA 6.27.1.6 Commentary, etc. with original text Three treatments, depending on the situation • Presented as the work of the commentator, annotator, illustrator, etc. • Presented simply as an edition of the previously existing work • Presented as a compilation of separately titled works, one or more of which is a commentary, etc.

RDA 6.27.1.6 Commentary, etc. with original text Situation #1 Presented as the work of the commentator, annotator, illustrator, etc. • Follow 6.27.1.6 and treat as a new work • Make an analytic added entry for the original work (LC-PCC PS for 25.1) LC-PCC PS 25.1: If RDA 6.27.1.6 is being applied to identify the work as a commentary, include in the bibliographic record an authorized access point for the original resource as a related work.

If the full call number for the original work is not available, create such a number so that it can be expanded according to G340. • Special provisions in the schedules: Take precedence over this general rule.

Assign the same call number to the criticism/commentary that was assigned to the original text in the original language, plus the digit 3. Assign a second Cutter for the main entry [i.e. creator of commentary].
