  1. SINGLECELL PROTEINS • Presented To: • Dr. HajraSadia • Presented by: • Filza Zarrar • NawalDaud • Fabiha Aziz • MahamShakoor • SaifUllah Khan • FarihaMunir • WardaMobeen

  2. Single cell protein The dried microbial (algae/yeast/bacteria/Fungi) cultures or the protein content extracted from these microbial cultures is called single cell protein. • Professor Scrimshow. • Also referred as “Novel food” or “Minifood”. • Earlier as “Microbial protein”. Process: Single cell protein is prepared commercially by process of fermentation. Raw Materials: • Microbes(Algae/yeast/bacteria/Fungi) • Organic Biomass(Sewage/agro-waste)

  3. Flow Chart Microbes Organic Biomass Fermentation Harvesting process Post Harvesting Process Processing for food

  4. Production of SCP from MethylophilusMethylotrophus Organic Carbon + Nitrogen +Minerals+ Oxygen ->  Single Cell Proteins + Carbon Dioxide + Water + Heat

  5. Why this process is preferred? • Rapid succession of generations. • High protein content is obtained. • Wastes products are utilized as raw materials. • Applications of Single cell proteins • Cosmetics • Therapeutics and Natural medicines. • Poultry/cattle feed • Health food • Protein supplemented food(sources of Amino acids, minerals and vitamins etc.
