  12. Different oils have different levels of free fatty acids FFAs. These need to be titrated with catalyst. A simple dip stick test works well and shows the pH according to colour bands Read off the amount of catalyst to add from the chart and table supplied Easy! Titrate the amount of catalyst

  13. What makes the BD400 so effective? Pressurised reactor allows the reaction to be carried out at 85°C w/o methanol boiling off. (Well above “normal” methanol boiling point.) This drives the reaction forwards. Inner stainless steel core, outer stainless steel jacket. Insulated. Good proven mixing. Gives exceptional mixing of reactants not just circulation.

  14. Add oil to methanol, not methanol to oil The reaction works best with high concentrations of methanol and high temp. Add hot oil to warm methanol + catalyst. Gives very high initial methanol:oil ratio – optimal. Minimal vapour space/loss. Incr. pressure & temp to 85°C.   24. Our equipment can produce up to 500 litres of methyl ester per batch – in one hour. We use stainless steel equipment to process methyl ester. It is designed on a Modular concept – i.e. start small and grow to produce 2-3 million litres per year with ease. Duplicate to meet demand. Our equipment is cost effective and capable of producing good methyl ester(98% conversion) No discharge of dirty effluent from our manufacturing plant.
