PSSA • Pennsylvania System of School Assessment • Pennsylvania’s assessment (testing) program to determine student achievement in mathematics and reading (also test in science and writing but not connected with AYP) • Results used to establish a district’s and school’s AYP status
District AYP • Determined in grade spans: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 • District measured in 72 targets • Sub groups measured if 40 or more • For district to meet AYP, all targets in one grade span must be met
School AYP • Determined by grades in school that are tested • Schools measured in up to 41 targets • Sub groups measured if 40 or more • For school to meet AYP, all targets must be met
What are the targets? • Academic Performance Proficiency rates are: Mathematics – 67% Reading – 72% • Test Participation – 95% • Attendance – 90% or improvement (for all schools except high schools) • Graduation – 85% or improvement (for high schools only)
So, how did Council Rock do? • A total of 285 targets assessed (graduation rate, attendance rate, test participation, academic performance) • Council Rock met 279 of the 285 targets • District made AYP • High Schools did not make AYP (IEP group – North: Math; South: Math and Reading) • Middle Schools made AYP • Elementary Schools made AYP (Churchville did not based on their IEP group in Math.)
