On 20th November, 7 members of the Bromsgrove District Council Equality and Diversity Forum attended an impactful training session on Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs). Participants reported a greater understanding of EIAs and their connection to Equality Action Planning and Business Planning. Provisional dates for a second session are set for 18th or 19th February. Additionally, the Disabled Users Group met, prioritizing access issues like transportation and town center redevelopment. The Gender Equality Working Group is finalizing documents for a launch event on International Women’s Day.

Equality Impact Assessment Training • The training was held on 20th November • 7 Forum members attended with 6 apologies • We worked together on an Impact Assessment for “Equalities” as a Council function • Results will be made available as a draft document after the second session • Provisional dates – 18th or 19th February

Equality Impact Assessment Training • Next steps are • Provide second training session • Finalise the Equality Impact Assessment for “Equalities” • Publish this on the Internet • Agree a timetable for presenting other Equality Impact Assessments to the Forum
Disabled Users Group • First meeting on 4th December 2007 • 13 people attended with 7 apologies • Terms of Reference to be agreed at next meeting • Incorporate the Easy Read Disability Equality Scheme and “Achieving Disability Equality in the Bromsgrove District report • Meetings will be every 8 weeks, the Friday before the Equality and Diversity Forum meets
Disabled Users Group • It was agreed that the priorities for the Disabled Users Group are :- • Highways – pavements/ High Street • Community Transport (other transport issues/ taxis ) • Redevelopment of the Town Centre/ involvement in the design • Parking and parking charges/ loss of disabled parking bays
Gender Equality Working Group • Met on 21st November • Further input from group to the working draft documents • Key meetings still to be had with two Heads of Service and BDHT • Draft to be circulated February • Launch event on International Women’s Day March or April Conference 2008
Bromsgrove Black History Month • Programme of events succesfully run in October • More community members have joined the group • Celebratory meeting being held next Monday • Discussions to plan 2008 activities to start early in the year
