  20. Whathaschanged? FloorScore Inadditiontomeetinganoverallcutscore(whichisTBD),aflooraveragescoreof1.75willberequiredontheAssessmentCenter (Component1)andPortfolio(Components2,3and4)sections. The valueof1.75 sendsthemessagetocandidatesand policymakersthat: NationalBoard valuesbothassessment center and portfolioaspects ofteaching,and candidatescannotdemonstrate little or no evidenceof what eachsection measurestoearn certification.

FloorScore Specifically,thefloorscorerequirementsare: Candidatesmustearna minimumaveragescoreof1.75on Component1:ContentKnowledge,whichisalsoreferredtoasthe AssessmentCenterSection.TheaveragescorefortheAssessment CenterSectionisbasedonaveragingthescoresfromthethree constructedresponseexercisesandtheselectedresponsesection. Candidatesmustearna minimumaveragescoreof1.75on Components2,3,and4,whichisalsoknownasthePortfolioSection. TheaveragescoreforthePortfolioSectionis basedonaveragingthe scoresfromthethreereferencedcomponents.

  24. Whathaschanged? RetakePolicy Beginningwith the 2014-15cycle, first-timecandidateswill be allowedtoretakea component,regardlessof previous score earned. Previouspolicydidnotallowretakes ifthe candidatescore was 2.75 or higher.Note that candidatesbestscore (notmostrecent score) is usedincalculatingtotal score.

MaintenanceofCertification • The NationalBoardrecently reviseditspolicyfor maintenanceof certification, and willrequireBoard- certified teachers to demonstratetheirknowledgeand skillseveryfiveyears.(AdoptedFebruary2015) • Thisnew policyis alignedwiththe movementof 40 state licensuresystems toafive-year renewalperiod,butalso reflects effortsto makecertificationmore affordableand efficient forall teachers, so thatthatit can becomethe norminthe profession.
