The Oregon Trail The early 1840’s “Oregon fever” swept through the Mississippi Valley. The depression caused by the Panic of 1837 had hit the region hard. People formed societies to gather information about Oregon and to plan and make long trip.

The land law of 1851 set up a group people to review the Californios’ land right .the Californios had to prove what land they owned. When a new settler claimed the to Californio’s land, the two parties would go to court. Some Californio’s were able to prove their claims. The Californios
