To provide engineering, technical support, help with new product start ups, develop new processes, and evaluate existing processes that will help the agency to positively impact the following areas: • Safety • Quality • Jobs for Blind and Visually Impaired • Efficiency • Cost • Delivery We will work proactively with the business line owners. Purpose

  5. Assist in new product startups (PDP’s, ratio, costing, layouts, samples, and staffing) • Benchmarking with other agencies and commercial industry. (examples BISM, LCI, & Commercial Optical) • Verifying production standards • Provide insight and technical support to manufacturing facilities and sub-contractors. • Develop new methods to solve quality issues. • Assist the training department in helping to develop better methods and processes that will support the training of the visually impaired and blind. • Lead our Lean Manufacturing program through facilitating Kaizen events to reduce waste • Complete Value Stream Mapping • Set Up Kanban Systems • Develop Standard Work • Set up TPM • Set up Visual Management • Problem Solving • Develops time lines and training curves for all operators on new products • Work with the NIB rehabilitation engineers to effectively implement job conversions Support to the Agency • Evaluation and selection of equipment • Develops clamping devices to make targeted operations blind friendly and more efficient.

Successfully developed a Lean Leadership Team • Provided Lean 100 Orientation to all employees • YTD we have successfully completed 43 projects in the following categories: Projects Completed • Engineering (Business Evaluations) 21 • Lean/Process Improvement (Kaizen) 8 • Job Conversions (Equipment and Automation) 2 • Product Development (Commercial and Government) 10 • Energy Opportunities (Lighting and Air Conditioning) 2 • YTD Savings $171,176. (some projects have savings that will be determined as the year progresses) • Cost avoidance of $110,000 Projects and Successes

  7. This new department will strengthen the competitive edge of the agency by having a team concentrating on product development and process improvement. Conclusion
