Japan OCW Alliance: one model for the OCW Movement: www.jocw.jp • The top Japanese universities launched opencoursewares in May 2005: University of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo Tech, Keio, Waseda, Kyushu, Hokkaido, Nagoya. • Motivated by the ideals of intellectual philanthropy. • All believe in concrete benefits to their own institutions. • Major hurdles include funding, intellectual property, recruiting faculty to contribute material, and coordination among the alliance universities.
