  1. Ozone Layer Depletion By: Lauryn and Rachel Money.

  2. What is the Ozone layer?! • The ozonelayer is an atmospheric layer that helps shield life from ultraviolet radiation, which helps minimize the breakage of DNA.

  3. How is it happening? • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), are chemicals that are emitted into the lower atmosphere. • These chemicals slowly penetrate into the stratosphere, where they then consume ozone molecules.

  4. Why all the depletion?  • First observed in the mid-1980’s, pollution is the factor causing ozone layer depletion. • Examples; • Chemicals in air conditioning and cooling units. • Aerosol spray (hairsprays). • Cleaning processes of electronical equipment.

  5. What is ultraviolet radiation? • Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. (The term electromagnetic spectrum refers to all forms of energy transmitted by means of waves traveling at the speed of light.) • This is the radiation that causes tanning and sunburns and can lead to skin cancer.
