Warm Up: Initial Reading Response • Pull out a sheet of paper (no journals) and label it “Initial Reading Response.” Then, begin writing the response that will be the 2nd page of your contract. • Some questions to consider: What do you think about your book so far – better or worse than you expected? What do you think about the author and the writing style? Have you learned anything? At this point, do you think you would argue that this book be taught in schools – why or why not? Is there a quote or passage you have found interesting? What has really resonated with you? Etc. • The final version of this document will end up your contract, so do not lose it. For now, just worry about getting your thoughts down – doing this in retrospect is not nearly as effective.
