  2. Warm-up #4 • Why was Prince Shotoku important to Japan’s development? • He admired the culture of China and sent scholars there to study and learn everything they could about Chinese culture. This impacted the development of Japanese culture. • What were the main influences that China had on Japan? • Language, philosophy, and religion were some of the main influences that China had on Japan.

How did Japans location both separate it from and tie it to China and Korea? • Japan is separated by the sea and its far enough from China and Korea that Japan could create its own culture, but close enough to borrow ideas from China and Korea. • 3a. How did Prince Shotoku help spread Buddhism in Japan? • He built temples and wrote interpretations of Buddhist teachings like the 17 Articles. • 3b. What do you think was the most important idea the Japanese borrowed from china or Korea? Why? • Give idea that is actually from China or Korea • Accurately explain why it was important.

  4. Chapter 8.1 Assessment Questions • 4 (honors only) Draw a graphic organizer, like this one. In the circle, list ideas that developed in Japan with not outside influence. In the arrow, list ideas that the Japanese borrowed from other people. Shinto, creation story, clan system, etc…

Korea Gallery walk • Read the selection at each station to lean how Korea affected the development of Chinese culture. • Write bullet point notes in your graphic organizer. • Be sure to read together and discuss what you wrote with your group. • Rotate to the next station on Ms. Schaller’s command. 

  6. Homework • Read Chapter 8.2
