BGI status

On January 16, 2013, significant challenges arose during the BGI meeting regarding hardware restarts in the SPS and LHC systems. While the SPS cameras activated correctly, they lacked RS485 communication. The BGI crate was unresponsive potentially due to an electrical glitch, prompting interventions from Ion, Raymond, and Stephan. Power supplies and faulty power strips were replaced, restoring communication. However, the gas injection system faced a "STOP interlock present" state, requiring tunnel intervention to bring the system back online by Monday afternoon. Key lesson: conduct post-holiday tests promptly.

  1. BGI status M. Sapinski, Emittance meeting 2013.01.16

  2. Difficult hardware restart • SPS: camera switched on, working correctly but lack of RS485 communication. • LHC: cameras switched on, HV as well, all tested on Tuesday and Wednesday. • On Thursday BGI crate (cfv-us45-btvm) found down (maybe electrical glitch played a role, but other BI crates OK), no remote control. • Interventions (Ion and Raymond, afterwards Stephan): • Exchange of Wiener power supply (Ion and Raymond) • Problem with one of the power strips inside the crate (exchange by electrical service called by Raymond) • Second power strip also found off (Stephan and Christophe) – powered on • After that communication with crate OK, but gas injection system found in “STOP interlock present” state. • Remote activation did not work, tunnel intervention was necessary (Didier and Francois) • System operational again on Monday afternoon.

  3. Lesson for the next time: AFTER CHRISTMAS TEST EVERYTHING ASAP because Santa does not exist
