  1. Welcome to 4th Grade! Please find your desk. We will sort supplies after a brief presentation.  Mrs. Mann

  2. A little about me… • 10thyear of teaching • Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education • Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction

  3. My goal is to create a respectful, caring environment where all students can succeed. • Our classroom rules are simple. We treat others as we would like to be treated. • Positive behavior system.

  4. Daily Schedule 8:50-9:00 Arrival 9:00-10:30 Reading Workshop (10:00 Snack) 10:30-11:30 Specials A Computer B PE/Lit C PE/Music D Art EMusic/PE 11:30-12:35 Writing 12:35-1:20 Lunch 1:25-1:45 Read Aloud 1:45-2:15 Science or Social Studies 2:15-3:15 Math 3:30 Dismissal

  5. Literacy • Reading and Writing in a workshop format • Book log- goal is to read at least 10 pages of reading daily • 40 in 4th Reading Challenge • Word Study- new words come home on Monday-test on Friday

  6. Math • Flexible grouping • Skills: • Operations and Algebraic Thinking • Number and Operations in Base Ten • Measurement and Data • Geometry • Number Sense-Fractions • 8 Mathematical Practices **Students need to know multiplication facts**

  7. SOCIAL STUDIES • Map skills • Prairie & Illinois Unit • Government Unit • Study of the United States Regions

  8. Science • Earth Materials (Rocks and Minerals) • Dissect owl pellets • Life Structures • (Plants and Life Cycle) • Inventions • Engineering -Pasta Bridges

  9. Grading • Different grading procedures depending on assignments: • Some assignments are reviewed and recorded as completed, but not graded. This will be indicated by a star or smiley face. • “CT” = Corrected Together/Completed Together • Some assignments will have point values awarded (ex: +14/15) • BDPS system (beginning, developing, progressing, secure)

  10. Birthdays Treat policy-the district policy prohibits us from accepting food as a birthday treat. Students will celebrate by going to the office to say the pledge and choosing a book.

Please place- • Freezer Bags & tissues on Guided Reading Table. • Art shirt in your numbered baggie. • PE shoes in cabinet under your mailbox. • All other supplies should go in your desk. • 2. Make any necessary changes to the Student Verification sheets, or initial if okay. I will take them when you are done. • 3. Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up sheets are located on the tables in the MPR. • 4. Volunteer sign up sheet online  • Thanks for attending! • I look forward to a wonderful, productive school year!
