Welcome to Curriculum Night!

Beyond reading, writing, and math, our goal is to teach your children how to be confident, strong, and learn from their mistakes. We use PBIS and assess students to monitor progress, offer tutoring, and provide resources for success. Major topics covered in math, English language arts, and other subjects are listed. Contact information and Title I reading and math interventions are also provided.

  1. Welcome to Curriculum Night! 2019-2020

  2. What do we teach? Beyond the reading, writing, and math, our goal is to teach your children how to be productive members of society. In order to do so, we must make our students confident, strong, and able to learn from their mistakes. We accomplish this through practice, hard work, and, occasionally, laughter. At Franklin, we also use PBIS, a discipline program, that emphasizes prevention instead of punishment.

  4. Where do we begin? • Before we can teach your students that they can accomplish anything, we must first assess what they know. The next few slides cover where the students were assessed at the beginning of the year in reading, math, amd spelling..

  5. ISTEEP MATH ASSESSMENT*Score Range: *0-2 Below Average *3-6 Average *7+ Above Average*End of the year goal: 11

  6. ISTEEP READING ASSESSMENT*0-60 Below Average *61-108 Average *109+ Above Average*End of the year goal: 147 WPM

  7. SPELLING ASSESSMENT*Goal is to be at grade level or above for spelling

  8. What next? At Home : In School : • We continue to assess at least once a month to monitor all of our student’s progress. If a student isn’t achieving at grade level, we also have tutoring and other resources to help your child succeed. • There are lots of things you can do at home to help your student succeed. • Make sure your child has the time and place to complete their homework. • Read together. • Write letters to each other. • Play math games. • Play spelling games.

TITLE I Reading & Math • The purpose of Title I-Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (signed into law on December 10, 2015, replacing No Child Left Behind) is to “provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps”. Title I provides technical assistance, service and support to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools to help ensure every child has access to an excellent education. • Students in K-5th grade who fall far below on the ISteep reading and/or math assessments are serviced during the academic day for reading and math intervention time with our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Young. The curriculum being taught during intervention time will be Spalding and various leveled readers at your child’s reading ability. There will be another Title 1 meeting during Spring conferences in March. Title 1 proficiency levels in reading fluency by the end of the academic school year; 1st Grade-94 WPM, 2nd Grade-128 WPM, 3rd Grade-147 WPM, 4th grade-167 WPM, 5th Grade-173 WPM Math Fluency proficiency levels by the end of the year 1st Grade-16, 2nd Grade-22, 3rdGrade-11, 4th grade-24, 5th Grade-2
