  1. Washington School PTO 2012-2013

  2. Who We Are • President: Kelly Baltes • 1st Vice President: Josephine Alvarez • 2nd Vice President: Maria Foschini • Treasurer: Kristen Perini • Corresponding Secretary: Vanessa Kingslow • Recording Secretary: Brooke Noonan

  3. What exactly is PTO? • PTO stands for • Parent • Teacher • Organization • We are a Non-Profit organization • We are not part of the Board of Education • We are not funded by taxes or the school budget • We are a membership organization • We work WITH Washington School but we are a separate organization

  4. Parents Moms, Dads, Step-Parents, Grandparents, Guardians can all be members of the PTO! Parents raise funds and volunteer their time. Parents see the direct effect our work has on the students, teachers, and school as a whole.

  5. Teachers Teachers also pay membership fees to join the PTO! Teachers are not obligated to join, but many do! Teachers join the PTO because they care about our kids, our school and the quality of education they can provide with PTO funded books, time and equipment Teachers realize that joining the PTO is an investment in their classrooms, their students, achievement levels, test scores and the overall ranking of our school.

  6. Time = Money We know that your time is precious. We want the greatest return possible for the time that you are able to give. This year we will focus on fundraisers that take less time and make more money. We are going to discontinue fundraisers that raise very little money for the time investment such as the Poinsettia sale and Spring Plant sale. We will focus on fundraisers that will not require any time commitment outside of your home.

  7. Money = Money We can’t get around this one! If you can’t volunteer time, but can make a donation – we’ll take it.

  8. Goals for 2012-2013 Thankfully we recently passed a referendum for new technology and improvements to the school. With that referendum came Promethean boards for all the classrooms. These boards can do great things and improve the quality of education in the classroom However, not included were individual Learner Response Systems for the students.

  9. Learner Response What? ActiVote ActiVoteis a hand-held wireless Learner Response System with a simple 6-button, A-to-F interface. Teachers poll students at any time during class to assess progress and, based on responses, customize lessons to create a more personalized learning environment.

  10. Why Do We Need These? With ActiVote, you won’t have to guess whether students truly grasp the lesson content. The entire class clicks to respond and answers are instantly viewed, shared and analyzed on the ActivBoard in easy to understand formats, such as bar graphs and pie charts. Gain insight into student progress and use real-time feedback to determine whether you need to review, re-teach or proceed with the remainder of lesson.

  11. The Kicker They cost about $1800 per classroom set-up. Teacher module and 24-32 ActiVotes We need to supply them for 15 classrooms. That is $27,000. Roosevelt and Jefferson PTOs were able to purchase theirs already.

  12. Are You Crazy PTO Lady? $27,000!!!!! How are we going to do that? I’ll tell you 

  13. Money In addition to fundraising we are just going to flat out ask for money. $27,000 sounds insane. But it comes out to approximately $100 per student. For every $20 a family donates, you will be entered into a drawing for 4 front row tickets to either the Winter or Spring Concert (winners choice). We will give out 2 prizes. If a family donates $50 you will get 4 chances for the raffle instead of the 2 you would get for $40.

  14. PTO Membership Dues It only costs $10 to join the PTO If everyone joins we will be able to fund 1 classroom. If you have not already done so, we have membership forms, pens and change of a $20 by the book fair! You can also return your forms to your child’s teacher by September 30th.

  15. Donorschoose.org Each teacher is going to set up a donorschoose.org account asking for people to fund this project. If a teacher’s class is fully funded through Donor’s Choose and family donations (families with more than one child will have the donation spread evenly among all children) the class will get a Pizza Party and small prizes supplied by the PTO.

  16. Other Fundraisers Yankee Candle Sale Holiday Boutique Spring Candy Sale Wildcat Clothing, Folders and Notepads Comedy Night/Spring Fundraising Event

  17. BoxTopsFor Education BoxTops = FREE $$$$$$ We made $1800 last year on BoxTops. Each class will have a BoxTop collection bin. Children can bring BoxTops in an envelope with their name and teacher on it ANY TIME and put it in the box. At the end of every month the PTO will count them up and the class with the most will get a rotating trophy. The student with the most will get a prize as well. We WILL NOT be sending home flyers each month to collect them.

  18. BoxTops Earn BoxTops by shopping online! Go to www.btfe.com/marketplace Earn 1 to 10 BoxTops for every $10 you spend. You can still use online coupons and promo codes! Stores include: The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Macys, Justice, Sears, JC Penny, Kohl’s and many more! Over 200 Merchants.

  19. New Website We will soon be launching our new PTO website at www.washingtonschoolpto.com It will have a calendar of events, suggestion box, links to related pages and flyers posted in English, Spanish, and other languages when available. Our Internet Coordinator Alex Clavijo will keep it updated. You can also find us on Facebook with our Washington School PTO group page.

  20. What Else? The PTO will continue to bring great assemblies to the school. We will continue to pay towards class field trips. We will continue to thank teachers throughout the year with lunches, scholastic book credits and other events. We will do as much as we can for everyone at Washington School!

  21. Book Fair! Please check out our Book Fair after classroom visits. There is one line to purchase books!!!! It will start at the red table and extend into the gym. DO NOT make a 2nd line from the register along the book shelves. You can browse, but sales will not start until I get there and turn on the register (and I have to visit classrooms too!) The PTO makes over 50% profit on the book fair so please check it out!

  22. Thank You! If anyone has any questions, many of us will be available after classroom visits! Look for us by the Book Fair.
