Ensuring Road Safety: The 2008 Directive on Infrastructure Safety Management

DESCRIPTION

The 2008/96/EC Directive by the European Parliament mandates comprehensive road safety audits for infrastructure projects across Member States. These audits are crucial at various stages, including the draft and detailed design phases, as well as pre-opening and early operation. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of appointing and training qualified auditors to ensure effective implementation of safety measures. Compliance with this directive is expected by December 2010, with the adoption of necessary guidelines to enhance road safety management by December 2011.
