  6. Class Standing • 9th grade………………..0-5 credits • 10th grade………………5.5 -10.5 credits • 11th grade………………11 – 16 credits • 12th grade………………16.5 + credits Remember—you need at least 16.5 credits by the end of the summer to be classified a senior!!!! THESE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

  18. Other Requirements • PE or an equivalent (three semesters) • No more than four semesters will count for credit towards graduation (p.43-45) • One semester of Health or a full year of Health Science Technology (p. 43-44) • One semester of Communications Applications (p.20)

  19. ElectivesPages 45-52 You must have 3.5 elective credits (WHS Recommended) & 2.5 elective credits (Distinguished). Any course taken for credit beyond the requirements is considered an elective. • Examples: Personal Family Development, Child Development, Debate, Journalism, Global Business, Introduction to Computer Aided Drafting, psychology, reading, Ag courses, keyboarding, accounting, etc.

  20. You want to be a student aide? • If you are interested in being a student aide, you will receive local credit only. • You must… • Fill out application and return with your registration worksheet • Sign – up for one semester of Teen Leadership – you must indicate it on your registration worksheet.

  21. Diversified Career Preparation • Can only be taken as a 12th Grader • Must fill out application which can be picked up in the counseling office. • Must have a job. • Must have transportation. • Approval is required.

Correspondence Courses(Texas Tech) Page 14 • Need approval to take. • Maximum of two state required credits. • SENIORS enrolled in a correspondence course MUST complete the course and submit a grade to the school by the end of the first semester of the year they plan to graduate. If you are interested in Correspondence Courses talk to your counselor As Soon As Possible!!!

  23. Dual Credit Courses • Students who wish to take Dual Credit Courses (courses which will give you high school and college credit at the same time) should read the THEA WARNING and DUAL CREDIT COURSES WARNING on page 20. • Most common courses taken at WHS: • Dual Credit English • Dual Credit Government • Dual Credit Economics

  24. More Important Items • Top 10% Rule – Students who graduate in the top 10% of their class are eligible for automatic admission to any public university in Texas if they apply by that university’s deadline. (Rule as of now) • TEXAS Grant – Students who qualify for financial aid and also complete the 24 credit Advanced plan may be eligible to receive a grant at the college level.

  25. Virtual School • Virtual School classes are available online for acceleration. • If you are interested in Virtual School, contact your counselor. • A complete list of courses can be found at http://vhs.sprnet.org/

  26. SAT and ACT Tests • Take in the spring of Junior year –NOW • Pick up packets in Counselors’ Office THEA Test • Required for Dual Credit classes • Packets available in Counselors’ Office • If TAKS, SAT or ACT scores high enough, THEA can be exempted

  27. SAT Spring Test Dates • March 14th ---register by February 10th • May 2nd —register by March 31st • June 6th —register by May 5th • Register online at www.collegeboard.com

  28. ACT Spring Test Dates • April 4th —register by Feb. 27th • June 13th —register by May 8th online at www.actstudent.edu

  29. Summer School2009 • Summer school will be held at Whitehouse High School. • Registration June 4 and 5 • June 8th through July 13th • Listen to announcements for further updates!

  30. Need help with what to take ? • Sign up in the counselors’ office for help with your course request • Fill out your schedule card in pencil

  31. Other Important Items • Be realistic in your course selections • Make choices you really want • List at least three alternate choices for classes • Read the catalog carefully for prerequisites and other information

  32. Things to Think About • Are you doing what you need to be doing to prepare for college and/or the work you will be doing after high school? • Are you going to meet all the requirements for graduation in 2010? • If you have questions or concerns, sign up to see your counselor.

NCAA Scholarship • Must satisfy certain requirements. • This spring you need to go online and register at www.ncaa.org • When you take the SAT or ACT this spring include the NCAA as one of the places your scores will go. (code 9999) • At the end of the junior year go back online and get the NCAA transcript release form to mail them a transcript.
