  1. School based task for month 6—task a CCQs Author:Tao Chunmei Zhang Zhishuang Lai Yueduo

  2. When we convey the meaning of new language, we need to check that the students have really understood. It is very easy for a teacher to think that we have explained the meaning very well but sometimes the students have understood something completely different. For example, if the teacher touches her face to demonstrate the word "cheeks", the students could think she means "face" or "smile". Concept questions are questions which guide the student to the meaning of vocabulary or grammar. They need to be very simple, using language which is easier than the language we are checking. Usually the teacher asks two or three questions with simple answers. For example, if the teacher has taught the meaning of 'soft drinks' by giving a definition, such as "Soft drinks are cold drinks without alcohol", she can then ask negative checking questions like "Is coffee a soft drink?" (No, because it is hot and soft drinks are cold) or "Is wine a soft drink?" (No, because it has alcohol.) The teacher could then ask "Is orange juice a soft drink?" (Yes).

  3. The teacher can also use concept questions to check the meaning of grammatical structures For example, with the sentence "When I got home, she'd gone to bed", the teacher can ask "How many actions?" (Two) "Which action was first?" (She went to bed) "Are the actions in the past, present or future?" (Past). If the students can answer the concept questions correctly, they have understood the new language, but of course they still need to practise it more. For example: A、 I would have done my homework if I had had enough time . CCQs: →Did you do your homework? →Did you have enough time? →Did you finish your homework?

  4. B 、I managed to climb the mountain. CCQs: →Did I climb the mountain? →Did I succeed the mountain? →Did I make it to the mountain top? C、I used to smoke. CCQs: →Do you smoke? . →Did you smoke? →Did you give up smoking?

  5. D、 a lighthouse CCQs: →Is it a light? →Is it a house? →Is it a tower? E、 Mary is playing her guitar in the garden. CCQs: →What is Mary playing in the garden? →Whose guitar is Mary playing in the garden? →Where is Mary playing her guitar?
