What is an injury?. When a part of your body is hurt really bad, l ike a cut, bruise, broken bone, swollen ankle, or a bite. How do you know when you are injured?. Ask yourself…. Are you bleeding? Are you bruised? Are you swollen…skin is big and fat? Can you stand and walk?

  1. What is an injury? When a part of your body is hurt really bad, like a cut, bruise, broken bone, swollen ankle, or a bite.

  2. How do you know when you are injured? Ask yourself….Are you bleeding? Are you bruised? Are you swollen…skin is big and fat? Can you stand and walk? Are you in a lot of pain? Can you keep playing at recess or gym?

  3. What to do if you are injured? Tell an adult….lunch supervisor or a teacher Have a friend go get an adult…lunch supervisor or a teacher You go to the office.

  4. What is not an injury? *Getting hit in the face with a sponge ball or bean bag during gym class. *Tripping over your feet, while walking. *Falling on the ground because you were running too fast, at recess time. *A bloody nose. *Falling off of your scooter during gym class. *An arm, leg or knee that hurts you. *A lose tooth.

  5. When do you need to use ice? When a part of you body gets swollen or big and fat, like a sprained ankle, thumb, finger or face.

  6. Do you hurt or are you hurt? Yes, you will hurt and be in pain when you hurt yourself but the pain will go away. It takes time. If the pain doesn’t go away and you don’t get better, you are really hurt/injured.

  7. Serious Injuries Need to tell an adult. Need ice May need a wheelchair. Need to call your parents at work. Need to see a doctor. Need to miss recess and gym class.

  8. What happens when you get hurt? We look at your injury. We ask you , “What happened?” We fill out an accident report. We call mom and dad. We may call a doctor.

  9. Be Responsible • Tell the truth about how you got hurt, even if you were not following the rules. Otherwise we can’t help you. • If you get hurt, take a break/rest, from playing until you feel better. • Use your thinking brain and your eyes and make sure you make good choices.

  10. Be Respectful • Of other students. Play by the rules and don’t hurt others. • Of Mrs. Benton, Mr. White, Mrs. Ludens the lunch helpers and all teachers. They are here to help you but they also need to help other students, teachers and parents. The office is a busy place.

  11. Be Safe • Be careful on the playground during recess. • Follow all the safety rules, inside and outside. • Make good choices about how you play and what games you play. • Take turns. • You are responsible for YOU and your safety
