  9. How do you use a compass? A compass is a device/instrument used to give the direction of places. A compass has a pointer which show where north is. This is used as a reference point from which all other directions are given. When using a compass: • Draw a compass (imaginary) in the centre of the map. • Label the north point (usually at the top). • Label the other points; E, S, W etc. • Now use your compass.
