  4. Nightly Routine Every night your child will bring home their red homework folder. In this folder will be behavior for the day/week, homework assignments, and a return to school and keep at home pocket. Every Friday there will be a weekly newsletter located in the back of the folder. Your child will return this folder daily with any notes and homework placed in the return to school pocket. Also, please place any money in a Ziploc bag or envelope labeled for what the money is for and place it inside the return to school pocket. *Write your child's first and last name on the label located at the top right hand corner of the red homework folder!

  5. “Letter Muncher” Through the studies of ABC’s, we ask students to bring in an object that begins with that letter. You may want to assist them in the beginning, and later allow them to make their own choices. Incorrect responses will be discussed and investigated, not shunned. *We will not learn the alphabet in order starting from A-Z. We will be doing a researched based program, by Beverly Tyner, that introduces 5 letters a week and they are not always in order!

  6. Student InformationIndex card • Write child’s full name • Write the name child goes by if different from above • Write home address • Parent name • Home phone • Work phone • Cell phone • List any allergies • List any medications

  7. Discipline Policy If you have not read and signed my discipline policy, please do so at this time!

  8. Video & Picture Release Form This is provided to obtain written permission to videotape and or photograph your child. *please sign the picture release form at this time

  9. Bus and Pickups For the first two weeks of school, your child must wear their tags that identify if they are bus riders or pickup. *please fill out transportation card at this time. *also fill out the transportation sheet You may find your child’s bus number in the newspaper or at the Onslow County Schools website. www.onslow.k12.nc.us

  10. Picking up your child Please pick him/her up by 2:50 in the cafeteria. If you need to check your child out, please do so by 2:15.***Tardies may count against attendance*see OCS policy

  11. Early Release Early Release Schedule September 22, 2010 October 20. 2010 February 9, 2010 March 9, 2010 April 6, 2010 • We will have five scheduled early release days. • Students will be dismissed at 11:45 • There will be no boys and girls club on these days. • Make sure you make the appropriate arrangements for your child.

  12. Morning Routine You may bring your child in the first day to walk him/her through the morning routine. 1st Job- Check in with Mrs. Henderson 2nd Job- Find your cubby for book bag 3rd Job- Make lunch choice 4th Job- Find seat and begin morning work *your child should wear his/her name tag provided until they can find the classroom by themselves! After the first day, we ask that you drop your child off at the door.

  13. Breakfast If your child wishes to eat breakfast at school, please make sure they do so before checking in with us! They must be in the cafeteria to eat breakfast by 7:45. Kindergarten students eat breakfast for free!

  14. Lunch You are welcome to join your child for lunch. I once again respectively request that this begins at the end of September, giving us time to adjust. Our lunch time will be from 10:39-11:04 Breakfast $1 Reduced Breakfast $.30 Lunch $1.75 Reduced Lunch $.40 Adult Breakfast $1.25 Adult Lunch $2.50 Milk $.25 *please fill out the free or reduce lunch application or sign the waiver saying you do not wish to apply! ***You may go onto lunchprepay.com and pay for your child's lunch in advance!

  15. Snack Please provide a daily snack for your child for the rest of August. In September we will begin our community snack. You will receive more information about this next week! PTO is selling popcorn on Fridays for $.50

  16. Notes If your child is normally a bus rider or a pickup and is going to be going home a different way I need to have a note. If I do not have a note or phone call from the office your child will go home as they usually would!

  17. Volunteer Policy We absolutely love volunteers! We will not be calling you in until the end of September. This will give our children time to adjust! You can be fingerprinted at the county office on Wednesday mornings. I will need helpers to come work in class or groups, and even volunteers who can do other jobs out of their homes. Please let me know if you are interested! You can just email me! THANKS

  18. Birthday Goodies School policy requires that all food products are store bought, with the ingredient label intact. Please do not be offended by the policy. Any food allergies will be listed on the community snack schedule each month! We will enjoy any special treats at our snack time around 2:00! Please notify us of any food allergies!

  19. Enrichment Schedule • At this time our school is trying a new schedule in which your child will not have the same scheduled enrichment classes each day every week. • You will be notified in your weekly newsletter on which days your child will attend P.E. so they can dress accordingly! • I will send home a monthly enrichment schedule at the beginning of each month so you will know what special your child will have each day.

  20. Fees Art Fee $1.00 Instructional Fee $5.00 $6.00 * You may pay Mrs. Henderson at end of our meeting!

  21. Was your child absent? If your child was absent, please send in a note. After several days with no note, the school generates a not so pleasant note. This note is NOT from us! To prevent yourself from receiving this note, please send in notes! ***Please note 20 absences may = retention

  22. In case of an “accident” Please send in seasonal appropriate clothes in case there is an uh-oh, there can be dry and clean clothes available!

  23. Towels Please send in a towel for our rest time. We will rest daily for the first month or so of school. We will send towels home on Friday for you to wash and send back on Monday.

School Supplies • #2 Pencils sharpened • Scissors • Pencil bag/no boxes please • 1 box of crayons (8 count) • 2 boxes of crayons (24 count) • 10 glue sticks • 3 spiral notebooks • 3 pocket folders • book bags (for safety reasons- no wheels) • 2 white t-shirts (allow for shrinkage and growth) • 1 gallon sized ziplock bags • 1-quart sized ziplock bags • baby wipes • 10 plastic sheet covers

  26. Donations Donations into the class are greatly accepted. Items that are constantly needed are: Magic Erasers (Mr. Clean) Baby Wipes Clorox and Lysol Wipes (to prevent sicknesses!!!) books Velcro Magnetic tape Dry erase markers Glue sticks Treats for our reward basket

  28. Conferences We will have at least 2 conferences this school year! Any additional will be scheduled upon need/ request.

  29. Welcome to Our Class!!! This year is going to be a new adventure for you and your child! We will be going on field trips and attending school assemblies. There will be surprises when least expected. This is the joy of being in this Kindergarten class!

  30. Visitors & Volunteers Please sign in at the front office and get a sticker that states you are a visitor. This is for the safety of your children, this is the school’s way of knowing who is on campus!

  32. A note from the Teacher I look forward to working with your child and getting to know him/her. I anticipate seeing your child grow and mature over this upcoming year! *You may go back and look at this presentation anytime. It is located on our school website. *I will post several things on the website so it would be very beneficial to check it at least a couple times a week! *please leave all forms in the folder and you may take what does not need to be filled out! LET’S HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
