  3. CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability CHIETA Bursary Scheme • The bursary application window opened on 01 February 2019 and closed on 28 February 2019. • A total number of 1852 applications were received and 187 students were awarded

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Small Business Support The UJ - CHEMIN Incubation Programmme Beneficiaries • Total number of beneficiaries: 30 Technical Skills Training and Business Coaching • SMEs trained in cosmetics manufacturing with TUT: 8 • SMEs trained in detergent manufacturing with Chemin: 22 • All SMEs are receiving traction coaching and mentorship

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability The UJ - CHEMIN Incubation Programme cont… Cooperatives • The programme had an interesting spinoff where entrepreneurs who were manufacturing similar or complementary products decided to create cooperatives to capitalize of each others’ skills and economies of scale. The following cooperatives were formed: Cooperative 1 – Masibambaneni The cooperative consists of 5 members, women only, and manufacturers pit toilet chemicals. Cooperative 2 - Hephzibah The cooperative consists of 6 members. It manufactures cleaning detergents and provides cleaning services to public schools and government departments

CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability The UJ - CHEMIN Incubation Programme cont… Access Market Opportunities: • Further product development and testing • Listing on the UJ supplier database for procurement • Through a buyers’ market organized by UJ • Unlocking procurement opportunities for market ready entrepreneurs in supply chains of corporate companies • Introducing entrepreneurs to e-commerce platforms such as Take-a-lot to increase market footprint and offset marketing costs.
