  1. Mock interview #2-main part of interview Interviewer: Hong, you’re a Biology major. Why would you want to go into marketing consumer products with J&J? Hong: As a scientist, I value that J&J uses extensive R&D for all its products. And as a loyal J&J consumer, I would like to help expand the global market, especially in China, for the company’s products. Interviewer: That makes sense. Even so, in this position, you’d need to help develop a national brand marketing plan and work as part of a team to implement this strategy. You’ve spent most of your time at Yale in class and in the lab. Would you be able to adapt?

  2. Mock interview #2-main part of interview Hong: While you’re right that at Yale, I’ve been in class and the lab a lot, last summer, I did an internship in China with Clinique and, while there, worked as part of a team and helped develop our marketing plan. Interviewer: Well, that’s useful experience. But cosmetics and oral health products are very different markets. Hong: You’re right about that. But through my internship, I learned how to analyze consumers and the marketplace, both of which are key to building a national brand marketing plan. Interviewer: That’s true. What do you think are your greatest strengths and how would you use them to contribute to J&J’s Marketing Department?

  3. Mock interview #2-main part of interview Hong: Whether at Yale or Clinique, my colleagues consider me highly analytical, a quick study, and a true team player. Each of these attributes would help me contribute to J&J’s marketing. Interviewer: We’re also looking for graduates who are passionate about brands and consumers. Hong: In fact, my passion is what motivates me in whatever I’m doing—whether I’m in the Yale lab late at night or working over the weekend with my Clinique colleagues. Interviewer: Well, we need to wrap up. Is there a question you’d like to ask me?

  4. Mock interview #2-main part of interview Hong: If an individual performs well in the marketing of one J&J product group, can he or she subsequently move to another product group? Interviewer: Absolutely. We encourage it. Hong: Thank you for your response. When can I expect to hear back from you? Interviewer: I think that you’re a strong candidate. I’ll provide my input to the Director of Marketing. Tomorrow, her assistant, Michele Bachmann, will call you to arrange a second interview. Hong: Thanks, Mitt. I look forward to continuing the interview process at J&J.
