Indicate what job you are applying for and express your interest State the title of the position for which you are applying. Mention how you learned of the position and/or who referred you. Include a phrase or sentence which will keep the reader’s interest.

  9. PARTS OF A COVER LETTER CONT. Body: An overview of your qualifications, skills, abilities, and accomplishments as related to the employer’s needs. Refer to the qualifications in your resume. 11. EXAMPLE: HEADING Malik Rabb (123) 456-7891 mrabb@email.com May 1, 2018 Hiring Manager Retail Ocean 123 Beach Rd. Los Angeles, CA 90044

  12. EXAMPLE: INTRODUCTION Dear Hiring Manager: It is a pleasure to be applying for the Cashier position at Retail Ocean. I believe my years of experience as a cashier and passion for healthy living will prove me a great candidate as a cashier at Retail Ocean. I admire the company’s commitment to providing consumers with healthful, whole products that will increase their quality and length of life.

  13. EXAMPLE: BODY As a young candidate, I have high energy and an eagerness to learn. During my tenure at my local farmers’ market, I worked for hours on my feet while attending high school full-time, keeping up with my grades, and being involved in several sports. I enjoyed working with the fresh produce and doing a job where I could be active. I am currently attending Coral Springs University and studying chiropractic care with a minor in alternative medicine. I am a firm believer in the healing power of a whole-food, organic, and plant-based diet. My parents taught me the value of health and always said that “health is wealth.” I come from a very active, hardworking family. My father is a personal trainer and my mother is a florist. My upbringing lit a fire inside of me to be successful and to be healthy. I strongly believe that a healthy body is more efficient and can produce better results at school, on the field, and at work.

  14. EXAMPLE: SUMMARY/CLOSING Thank you for reviewing my application for the Cashier position at Retail Ocean. I am confident that my high energy, optimal health, and background with plant-based and whole foods will make me a valuable team player at your company. I look forward to learning more about Retail Ocean. Sincerely, Malik Rabb

  15. COVER LETTER TIPS Send one! Even when an employer does not directly ask for one, be sure to always to send a cover letter. The only time you do not want to send a letter is when a job listing explicitly says not to send one. In that situation, it's more important to follow the directions on the job listing. Customize each letter. It might seem tedious, but it is important to customize each letter to fit the specific job you for which you are applying. It will make your letter stand out. Highlight relevant qualifications. In your cover letter, address one or two skills or qualifications you have that match the job description. Provide a specific example of a time you demonstrated each of these qualifications.

  16. COVER LETTER TIPS Explain anything. You can use your cover letter to go into detail about something in your resume that needs explaining. Read samples and templates. For help writing your cover letter, go online and look at the different samples that are available. Remember to make any example or template fit your own experiences and the job you are applying for. Edit, edit, edit. Be sure to thoroughly proofread each cover letter before sending it, looking for grammar and spelling errors. Consider asking a classmate or family member, or even a career counselor to read over your cover letter.

  17. YOUR TURN! Start working on your cover letter! Use Google docs to work on your cover letter Save your cover letter as (Last Name, First Name-CL) Once you complete your final draft share it with hsawblcoordinator@gmail.com
