What is texture? • An element of art, texture is the surfacequality or "feel" of an object, its smoothness, roughness, softness, etc. • Textures may be actual or simulated. • Actual textures can be felt with the fingers, • while simulated textures are suggested by an artist by repeating lines and shapes

  6. Rubbings/Frottage Assignment • texture can be borrowed from a surface • put paper over rubbing plates or other surface (like the bottom of your shoe, sand paper, mesh, etc.) • rub a crayon or pencil over the piece of paper • Create 4 rubbings in your journal
