This summary presents key specifications related to RPC barrel cabling for signal and low-voltage (LV) cables, including the types of signal cables available (loose pair round and twisted pairs from Amphenol and Kabelwerk). The cables are designed to withstand high voltage (up to 20 kV) and comply with CERN’s safety standards. Key characteristics include a single conductor diameter of 0.16 mm and an overall diameter adaptable for various configurations. Additionally, specifications for LV cables, including conductor ratings and materials, are outlined to ensure optimal safety and performance.

Signal cable specifications • Signal Cables (two possibilities): • Loose pair round and twisted pairs (with flat zone for crimping connector); (made by Amphenol) • Round and twisted pairs (no flat zone) (made by Kabelwerk) • The choice will depend on the price including manufacturing
HV cable specifications • Cable from KERPEN suitable to sustain up to 20 kV • Cable characteristics: • In compliance with CERN safety instruction IS 23 • Single conductor- = 0.16 mm • Conductor resistance @ 20°C = 147 /Km • Core- = 3 mm • Screen wire-=0.2 mm (for 10 conductors) • Overall diameter = 8.4 mm (for 3 conductors) • Price: 1.050 €/Km (for 10 Km and 3 conductors cable)
LV cable requirements • 8 conductors cable (=1mm) • Rated current/conductor = 3A • Aluminium/mylar shield • Sheath made by LSZH flame retardant and fire resistant material, halogene and sulphour free specification requested by Cern Safety Instruction IS23 (coloured in blue as requested) • Total cable diameter = 9.6 mm
Cables quantity and occupancy (Barrel) • (Medium Voltage – Communication Link: from RB to Controller SY1527 • 13 LB x 10 sectors (30° each) + 15 LB x 2 sectors (sectors 4 & 10) • We prefer 7 instead of 6 for a better distribution in RB2 divided by three case
