Innovation Challenge - 2012 The Concept In the spirit of fostering innovation, team collaboration, exploration of emerging technology and business process improvement, the Energy CIOs have initiated the “Innovation Challenge”.The mission is for the participating teams to generate a sound, practical innovative idea that will solve a real business/IT problem through technology and/or process solutions. The team with the best idea, as assessed by voting & judging panels will be recognized & rewarded. The idea can potentially feed next year's business strategic planning ideas in the GPB. The Challenge • 6 Problem statements will be published for the challenge • These challenges could be either solved with Technology and/or Process solutions • Each problem statement will have an IT owner identified • 1-2 Q&A sessions will be held to address questions related to the overall challenge and specific to problem statements, if any • Everyone in Energy IM can participate….Participation can be at 3 levels • As part of a team submitting a solution. Team formation rules apply • As an individual who can provide some advice/inputs to the participating teams by blogging/commenting and/or voting for their favorite solution • As an individual who can view the challenge, solutions…. more a silent participant • Each team can submit only one solution per problem statement • The challenge will be run using a tool called ‘Idea String’ which has been configured specifically for the Energy Innovation Challenge.

  3. Innovation Challenge - 2012 Team Formation Judging Process • Team formation is left to the participants, rules below apply • Each team will consist of 4-5 members. (A minimum of 4 members and maximum of 5 members can be part of a team). • A person can only be a member of one team. • Form diverse team in terms of location, gender, Sub P&L/SS team members etc. Teams will also be judged on diversity factor • Team members for a given team must vary across P&Ls and site (city) location. No more than 2 team members can be from the same P&L and/or the same site location. • Team members should nominate a Team Leader to represent the team • One team can only pick one problem statement to solve • 3 rounds for the entire challenge • 1st Round – The Top 5 from each Problem Statement move to round 2; Max 30 teams • 2nd Round – The best solution from each Problem Statement will move to the 3rd + 2 wildcards; Max 8 teams • 3rd Round – Top 3 solutions will be rewarded. Consolation prizes at the discretion of CIO’s • Winners for Round 1 & 2 will be selected based on a combination of Energy IM voting & the Judging panel • Judging Panel will use the Judging criteria to pick the winners • Voting is a Yes/No – Open to Energy IM • Weightage will be assigned to the Voting and Judging panel decision based on certain criteria to ensure fair judgment
