Many hotels do not book small groups more than two years out. Stanford Court or the Omni are good alternatives for SOFE2013. • J.P. Allain offered to arrange for a fusion-related mini-course at SOFE2013 or held in conjunction with the PPPS2013 mini-courses just before SOFE. FTSC will make the venue decision next week during our teleconference.

  12. WIE reception • FTC requests $2.5k from NPSS to help support the WIE reception at ICOPS/SOFE2011 in addition to the $2.5k PSAC is requesting. FTC and CIP formation • FTC sent out a request for CIP volunteers to form a new committee for SOFE • Michael Tadros (SNL) agreed to lead and coordinate the effort for FTC • Purdue responded with some volunteers • Recruiting more help from UCLA and Wisconsin

SOFE/ TOFE relationship • Proposed technical co-sponsorship of TOFE 2012 (November 2010 motion) • Proposal accepted by ANS FED, but MOU was rejected by ANS HQ • FED offered reduced registration for IEEE members for TOFE2012 • Wanted reciprocity for SOFE2013 – take up in FTSC • No IEEE member recruitment booth at TOFE • FED will not share e-mail list • FED will provide publicity for SOFE 2013 Lee Cadwallader (ANS FED chair): “The representatives I spoke with at ANS HQ are not going to enter in to any formal agreement with IEEE.  There will not be an MOU from them, and they made it clear to me that my elected position is not a legally binding position so I cannot enter in to an MOU”.

  14. summary • Special TPS issue for SOFE2011 in planning. Website posting very soon. • Eight high-caliber nominees for the 2011 Fusion Technology award. FTSC vote March 30. • Charles Neumeyer provided updates on SOFE2011. • Roughly 200 abstracts for SOFE – about normal • 8 page limit on proceedings • FTC supports $2.5k of NPSS funding for SOFE portion of WIE reception • Wayne Meier of LLNL accepted the chair of SOFE2013. • Stand-alone most likely • Venue decision next week • JP Allain agreed to setup mini-courses for SOFE2013 • Technical co-sponsorship of the ANS TOFE2012 conference not possible, but both FTC and the FED will work to jointly benefit our members. Arranging for reduced registration fees for ANS members will boost SOFE attendance. • Live FTSC meeting at SOFE2011 on June 28 (student award). • Working to establish a permanent SOFE CIP committee
