Weekly whole group advising and updating students on current HS information • Create Individual Learning Plans for ALL 8th grade students • Conduct interest inventory assessment with ALL 8th grade students • Individual sessions with EACH 8th grade student • Facilitate and assist with HS Fair at Solomon Elementary School on October 21st (fliers to follow) • Advise on Principal Discretion process • Facilitate High School Investigation Day at Taft High School (ALL Taft programs, including IB, AVID, NJROTC) • Meet with parent(s)/Guardian(s) by appointment Counseling Activities for 8th Grade Students and Parents

The application process for the 2015-2016 school year begins on October 1st. • The deadline this year is December 12th! • Eighth graders received their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) in the Eligibility Letters that they received Friday, September 5, 2014. -- the PIN can be used to apply to schools through the online application process, accessible at www.apply.cps.edu. • For parents who want to apply using a paper application, paper applications for all five programs managed by our office will be distributed to counselors by the end of the month. (These five programs are CTE-College and Career Academies, IB High Schools, Magnet High Schools, Military Academies, and Selective Enrollment High Schools.) THE APPLICATION PROCESSFOR 2015-2016

  4.  To apply to any other schools, other than the five types listed above, see the High School Guide. Each school profile provides information regarding the school's application and selection procedures. • Several programs have requirements that are part of the application process:  Selective Enrollment High Schools have required admissions exams, IB High Schools and Military Academies have a required Information Session, and Senn Fine Arts Magnet Program has a required audition/portfolio review.  • Students who are applying to IB High Schools only have to attend ONE Information Session, even  if they are applying to more than one school.  They no longer have to attend a session at every school to which they are applying.   5. Eligibility is based on NWEA scores! Last year: The ISAT, and comparable standardized tests, were used to determine eligibility for students to take the Selective Enrollment admissions exam, and apply for Magnet, IB, Military, and CTE-College and Career Academies. THIS YEAR: All students MUST have MAP scores to determine eligibility for the above HS programs. New for 2015-2016!

  6. Online site: www.apply.cps.edu • Eighth grade students received a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in their eligibility letter. The PIN can be used for applications for all children in the family. If you do not have computer access, you can submit Proxy Consent Form to ME, Ms. Bridget Stanis, School Counselor, for access and assistance in utilizing the online application site. • First, SCHEDULE your appointments (test, information sessions, audition) based on the programs to which you plan to apply. Print the Confirmation Page and keep it in a safe place; you will need to take the Confirmation Page with you to your appointments – this is your entry ticket. • Then, APPLY to the school(s) of choice. Print the Confirmation Page as proof that you submitted your applications. Online Application Process

Obtain paper applications from: www.cpsoae.org(click “Apply” and “Application Materials”); ME; or OAE – call (773) 553-2060 or email oae@cps.edu. • Select choices. • Parent(s) must sign the application and mail or hand-deliver to OAE. • If your email is listed, you will receive an email confirmation. • If you enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard/envelope, it will be returned to you as confirmation. • If admissions screenings (i.e., admissions test, information sessions, audition) are required for the schools to which you apply, OAE will schedule your appointments and notify you by mail of the dates, times, and locations.   8. September –October 2014: High School Guides will be given to Elementary Schools! September 19th: Application website open for account creation ONLY October 1st: Scheduling and application process is OPEN! October 21st: HS Fair @ Solomon ES!! December 12th: Scheduling and application process is CLOSED!!! January 23rd: Application choice change deadline (slecting and/or ranking schools) February 20th: Notification letters are mailed to students’ homes March 6th: Confirmation forms due!!
