General information Oregon • Became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. • Is situated in the Pacific Northwest region of the USA. • Has a population of just over 3.8 million. • The capital city is Salem. • The biggest city is Portland. • Is the site of the deepest lake in the USA, Crater Lake. • Is most known for Nike.

  4. Salem • State capital. • Was founded in 1842. • Population – 155,469 (2009). • Nickname – The Cherry City • The movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was shot at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem.

  5. Portland • The most populous city. • Was founded in 1845. • Population – 582,130 (2009). • Known as The City of Roses. • The friendship city of Tallinn.

  6. Crater Lake • Deepest lake in the USA and in the Western Hemisphere. • Maximum depth is 594m. • The lake is 8 by 10km across.

  7. Oregon sand dunes • Largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America. • Some dunes tower up to 150 meters above sea level. • The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
