  1. Course Selection 7th to 8th Grade Pennfield Middle School 2013

  2. February 7th- Course selection cards distributed to students (students select 5th Major and Music). • Mid-April and June- Verification sheets will be sent home. *Note: Course Selection Cards will not go home Important Dates

  3. Teachers will make their recommendations for required major courses. On February 7th students will write their choice for a music and an elective major on Course Cards. An alternative elective should be listed. Course Requests

  4. Teachers base recommendations on the student’s current performance in class. • Level changes require discussion between parent and teacher. • Teachers may change the recommendation later in the year if they feel it is appropriate. Course Level Recommendations

  5. Major Areas - 6 periods/cycle • English • Social Studies • Math • Science • Foreign Language –OR- (Latin, Spanish, French or German) • Business and Banking Concepts –OR- • Reading Required Courses for Class of 2018

  6. Art Foundations • Computer Applications • Exploring Technology • Family and Consumer Science • Health • Physical Education • Performance Music (Band, Chorus, Orchestra) -or- • Exploring Music • Extended Math** Required Special Area Classes

  7. Students in 7th grade level 5 or 6 math will be taking the Hanna-Orleans Algebra/Geometry Prognosis Test during the 1st or second week of February. • Students who score 45 on Algebra and 22 on Geometry tests and show ability in their math class may be recommended for Algebra in 8th grade (one year advanced). Algebra Prognosis Testing

  8. E - Extended 5 – Academic 6H – Honors 6P – High Potential Leveling

  10. Gifted Seminar (In place of Tech or Music) • Special Education • Math and Reading Support Specialized Programs

  12. Students must pass all 5 major subjects • English • Social Studies • Math • Science • Reading Summer school remediation is a must for failing one or two major subjects. Requirements for Promotion to 8th Grade
