  1. The Kidneys By Tom 5/6L

  2. About the Kidneys • Our Kidney’s work as a filter to clean the blood. In 2 hours your Kidney has pumped blood to every part of your body. Normally people have two kidneys but some people can be born with one and still live a normal life or when they are born they might have a kidney transplant. Your kidneys are located in your abdominal cavity which is located in your stomach. Your Kidneys are at the back of your stomach.

  3. How Do Our Kidneys Work • Think of your kidneys as a human waste disposals system. The kidney takes blood from all around your body and filters the blood. The kidney sends the blood to every organ in your body. The kidney sends all the bad stuff down the ureter which takes it to your bladder.

  4. What Happens When our Kidneys Fail • Think of a kidney as a computer. When the computer runs out of charge it shuts down; when your kidney gets blocked it shuts down and stops filtering the blood. When that happens, you have to be taken to hospital regularly and they plug into you a machine called dialysis. The dialysis is a machine which acts like a human kidney. The dialysis takes your blood and filters it. Some people have to use the dialysis forever. If you’re lucky, someone in your family might be able to donate a matching kidney to you so you don’t need to be hooked up to a machine for the rest of your life. Other people might receive one from organ donors. Sadly, this doesn't happen for everyone.
