  2. Who Was Involved? • Perpetrators: Adolf Hitler and the Nazis • Victims: European Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, Communists, Mentally and Physically Disabled • Upstanders: • Armed: Partisans, Ghetto Revolts • Unarmed/Non-Violent: Hiding children, preserving culture, creating art, music

  7. UpstanderS/ResistanceRaoul Wallenberg Raoul Wallenberg (1912 – 1947) • Swedish businessman, architect, businessman • Rescued tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of Jews in Hungary • Issued protective passports • Sheltered Jews • Detained for espionage, disappeared

UpstanderOskar Schindler Oskar Schindler (1908-1974) • German businessman and member of Nazi party • Rescued 1,200 Jews by employing them in his enamelware and munitions factories • He was initially motivated by profit • Was very dedicated to saving his workers • He spent his entire fortune to save Jews
