Adaptive strategy of countryside residents in Okomu National Park (ONP) support

This study examined the adaptive strategy of countryside residents by Okomu National Park, Edo State during Covid-19 lockdown. Multistage sampling was used to select 150 respondents from five support zone community around the park and twenty staff of the park. Information on forest-based activities and encroachment level before and after covid-19 lockdown was obtained using two sets of questionnaire. A 5-point likert scale ranked forest based activities; regression analysis determined the effect of socio-economic variable on involvement in forest based activities.

Host plants induced changes in the digestive enzymes activities and growth param

In leaf feeding insects, proper nourishment of larvae is dependent on the balance between nutritional content of food plants and the action of digestive enzymes in the digestive tract. In present investigation, gut digestive enzyme activities (u03b1-amylase, proteinase and lipase) and their influence on the larval growth parameters of Eri silkworm (Samia ricini) larvae reared on different food plants viz. castor (Ricinus communis), tapioca (Manihot esculenta) and papaya (Carica papaya) were assessed. The larvae on castor showed highest u03b1-amylase (1.50 u00b1 0.045 U/ml) and lipase (0.61 u00b1 0.012 U/ml) .

Induced Molting in Culled White Leghorn (Gallus gallus) Using Fasting and Low Pr

When birds return to the full feed, new plumage develops and the birds resume egg production at a higher rate with better egg quality. Induced molting extends the productive life of commercial chicken flocks and results in a substantial reduction in the number of chickens needed to produce the nationu2019s egg supply. The study was conducted to evaluate induced molting in culled white leghorn (Gallus gallus) using a fasting and low-protein diet. The completely randomized design (CRD) with ten replication was used to test the following treatments: T1 (fasting); T2 (medium-cracked maize).

Isolation of biofloc-associated bacteria from the rearing water of whiteleg shri

We aimed to determine the water quality of the biofloc-based nursery tank system and to isolate and characterize biofloc-associated bacteria from the rearing water of the whiteleg shrimp, Penaeus vannamei, during the nursery production phase in response to recommendations to further study biofloc composition. Serially-diluted biofloc water samples from a shrimp nursery tank were spread onto Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) plates, incubated for approximately 48 h at 28u2103 and observed for bacterial growth. Bacterial colonies that exhibited varying morphology were re-streaked onto fresh TSA plates.

Intra nasal in-situ gel freighted with Nano naturaceuticals for neurological dis

The treatment for acute or chronic neurodegenerative diseases is the most exigent aspect in many aspects, as the drug should cross the blood-brain barrier. At present many formulations have been developed for synthetic drugs to target the drug to the brain through various routes. Among them, the nasal route is one of the most prominent routes to target the drug to the brain, where the drug can bypass the BBB. There are many natural drugs, Phytoconstituents also available for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Because of the many advantages like natural, safe, easily available.

Effects of maize-cowpea association on Sesamia calamistis Hampson population dyn

In Africa, particularly in Senegal, the production of Zea mays L. has suffered considerable damage caused by Sesamia calamistis Hampson. To solve this problem, we conducted a study whose objective is to ensure food and nutrition security in maize in Senegal, particularly in the communes of Keur Mandongo and Keur Madiabel. Thus, the implementation of a good methodology is essential to overcome this problem. It consisted of sowing a plot of 2500 m2 of pure maize in rows, to introduce cowpea on these same lines (50 centimeters distance between the pockets) after emergence.

The diet of frogs is an important indication of the health of the environment. This study aimed to determine the gut content of 60 samples of Rhinella marina collected between the two sampling points in Gango, Libona, Bukidnon. Gut contents were identified and classified according to the nearest taxon. The most preferred food found in the two sampling sites was ants (31.51%) as the most abundant prey items in the gut of R. marina. Other prey items are considered to be ingested occasionally. It is also reported that soil, plant, rocks and solid wastes were ingested by the toad.

Resiliency of seagrass beds in shallow waters of Tacloban City, Philippines afte

Seagrasses have high ecological services as a promoter of biological productivity and biodiversity. When Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) devastated Tacloban City in 2013, two years after, seagrass beds started to emerge in the shallow waters of Cancabato Bay, Anibong Bay, and San Juanico Straight. Five species of seagrass were identified: Cymodocea rotundata, Cymodocea serrulata, Enhalus acoroides, Halodule uninervis and Thalassia hemprichii. Pooled resiliency attributes from literature to describe the acclimatization of the emerging seagrass beds and patches.

Effect of partial replacement of Fish meal by Lemna minor on the growth and immu

Aquaculture research in recent times has been focused on finding more affordable sources of plant protein for inclusion in the fish diet. Lemna minor is a widely reported alternative protein source in fish feed but its effect on the immune system of fish especially catfish is not yet fully understood. This study, therefore, evaluated the effect of dietary inclusion of L. minor on the growth, immune response and catalase activity of Heteropneustes fossilis. The fry of H. fossilis was fed five iso-nitrogenous diets containing graded percentage inclusion levels of L. minor as 0% (Control).

Adaptation of some cold tolerant Rice genotypes in Haor areas of Bangladesh

Rice is the most important staple crops of Bangladesh. In the haor (low lying) areas of Bangladesh, early planted dry season (Novemberu2013May) rice has to face cold stress at the early seedling to reproductive stages. The growers of the haor areas consider their dry season rice as a chance crop as it might encounter the flash flood at the maturity stage. Three cold tolerant advanced lines IR100722-B-B-B-B-11, IR100723-B-B-B-B-61, TP16199 along with BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan67 as checks were evaluated in ten locations especially haor areas in Bangladesh during the dry season 2021-22.
