  1. IU#1 Advanced Placement Courses Survey - March 2013 • All 26 school districts within Intermediate Unit # 1 were sent an electronic Advanced Placement Survey to complete. They were given 10 days to return the survey. • Friday, March 28 was the deadline to complete the survey. • The following17 school districts responded • Albert Gallatin, Avella, Bethlehem-Center, Bentworth, Burgettstown California, Canon-McMillan, Carmichaels, Central Greene, Chartiers-Houston, Connellsville, Frazier, Laurel Highlands McGuffey, Southeastern Greene, Trinity, Uniontown, and Washington

  2. Q#1 - Do you have a defined set of criteria for students to enter an advanced placement class?. • 17 school District within the IU#1 Responded • 13 districts do have a defined set of criteria for AP placement • 7 districts do not have a defined set of criteria for AP placement

  3. Q#2. Who pays for the registration fee for the student to participate in the advanced placement exam? • 13 school districts require the parents to pay for the exam • Washington School District pays for the exam • Connellsville, Laurel Highlands and Frazier School Districts pay for the exam another way.

  4. Q#3Please describe the prerequisites your district requires prior to a student entering advanced placement classes • The prerequisites are different for each AP class. The various prerequisites include: a required grade in a designated previous course, entrance testing, excellent attendance, department approval, competency test scores, portfolio review, having taken and passed a designated previous course, and teacher/counselor recommendation • Teacher recommendation • Completion of another class along with a specific grade in those classes most commonly an A. • General guidelines are that a student be recommended by a teacher within that domain. • Test Scores, teacher Recommendation. • Completion of the Honors track of coursework prior to AP participation • Lead up classes, grade requirements, summer reading lists etc • AP classes are made available to qualifying juniors and seniors with an overall cumulative QPA of 3.2 or a cumulative QPA of a 3.5 in the subject of application by the 3rd quarter as reflected on the transcript; Multiple Criteria
