WHY IS SLOVENIA NOT GETTING TO GRIPS WITH ALCOHOL? • limited capacity: in research, monitoring and evaluation, civil society initiatives and financial and human resources. • alcohol an ordinary commodity:no comprehensive strategy or action, limited political will to act and underdeveloped intersectorial cooperation. • societynot mobilized for action: no forum to exchange good practice and information and to enhance cooperation between partners 4th European Alcohol Policy Conference

ACTION: BCP and AP on the agenda of SVN Presidency to EU • internationalization - perception of us by others influencing perception of us by us • involvement • empowerment of individuals and institutions (PHI) • better access to information and innovation • political and media attention • up - grading advocacy capacity • up - grading research capacity 4th European Alcohol Policy Conference

ACTION: Implementing effective health interventions through driving legislation • CombiningNational road safety programme with National alcohol AP – common campaign and action; • EU DRUID project on road safety with INEBRIA project on brief intervention in PHC: using BI in alcohol-positive traffic casualties (0.5 to 0.8 BAC) and rehabilitation programmes for those above 0.8 BAC 4th European Alcohol Policy Conference

Expected outcomes • less drinking and driving – less traffic accidents But also • better awareness on alcohol not being an ordinary commodity in general public • getting information on effective measures to decission makers • motivating doctors to use BI as an effective intervention Challange: how to best use evidence for different audiences in public debate and how to best evaluate the effects 4th European Alcohol Policy Conference
