  2. High pT at RHIC • Measured in PHENIX for • Charged hadrons • p0’s (with both PgGl and PbSc calorimeters) • Observe • Peripheral collisions: Good agreement with scaled p-p reference • Central collisions: Clear deficit with respect to scaled reference

  3. Is It New? • Historically, enhancements have been seen in per-nucleon yields of high pT hadrons from proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions: “Cronin effect” • This is the first observation of a suppression
