Enhanced Maritime Safety Regulations in Sensitive Areas for Shipping and Environmental Protection

On July 8, 2018, during a session in Simrishamn, Chief of Rescue Services Thomas Fagö discussed the challenges posed by high maritime traffic in sensitive sea areas. He emphasized the need for restrictive additional regulations mandated by IMO. These include ATBA, anchoring, pilotage, and separation measures in compliance with UNCLOS. The session also covered the implications of PSSA and Special areas for chemicals, with details on communication, command structures, and notification processes essential for national organizations to address environmental concerns related to maritime activities effectively.
