Mobile Innovation Center (MIK) • Strategy, vision • The MIK is an institution built up on the basis on university knowledge and the existing industrial background • Dealing with research and development of wireless communication technology of the future (3G/4G) • Has up-to-date wireless communication environment and testbed for development and testing of the newest mobile applications • Strives for becoming a regional research and development centre in Hungary in its field of profession, and to stimulate settling of international “high-tech” companies to invest capital in our country. MIKProfessional program (1.) • Coexistence of mobile radio systems, investigation of radio channels • Investigation of potentials of radio coexistence/co-operation of various mobile technologies (UMTS, WLAN, Bluetooth, 4. generation systems) and studies on questions essential to this radio channel modeling • Main task of the project is to define those network arrangements in case of which the mutual or one sided interference can appear. Apart of that based on measurements we elaborate such models by means of which inter-effect of various mobile technologies can be planned. We wish to take into account also the effects of other, non mobile, but broadcasting technologies (e.g. radar). In view of realization of access network modeling of the behavior of the radio technology, elaboration of electromagnetic field calculations, furthermore the possibly more exact knowledge of wave propagation features seem to be important for the cell design Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (2.) • Improving quality of the radio transmission • Goal of the project is research, development and implementation of techniques which enable increase efficiency of radio data transmission. The activities cover among others intelligent antenna systems, investigation of wave forms of radio interface and B3G detection techniques • Defense against adverse phenomena affecting propagation of radio waves and aimed to parlay of these effects methods have a great significance in view of broadband, economically effective and environment saving radio data transmission. The various diversity methods, multi input, multi output (MIMO) techniques, applicable adaptive modulation method, error correction coding and use of adaptive antennas enhances the reliability and the achievable speed and can reduce adverse effect of networks on the environment e.g. use of the radio station of less power Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (3.) • Integration and of heterogeneous wired and wireless networks • Main goal of the project is exploring integration potentials of heterogeneous info-communication systems. Within this we focus on connection of wired and wireless systems, and the infrastructure and ad hoc mobile networks acting into account call transfer in heterogeneous mobile networks • Based on NGN concept we will study what protocols can be integrated into one common backbone network. Covered by sensor networks areas can be considered as an „intelligent environment”. Seamless data transfer in heterogeneous mobile systems. For optimization of the call transfer in the networks stochastic delay models should also be elaborated. This task is motivated by the fact that handover can degrade the QoS parameters. MIKProfessional program (4.) • Traffic modeling, network design and scaling • Goal of the project is modeling of types of traffic appearing in mobile environment, having this investigation of scaling and design related questions of networks • Fundamental tool for scaling and control of mobile networks is the modeling of network traffic, of which conclusions can be drawn for the real situations. In heterogeneous mobile systems modified variants of traditional traffic models should be applied. In this field the following questions should be studied: traffic and queuing of mobile networks, algorithms of collision resolution, schedule protocols for support of real time traffic, call admission algorithms, investigation of transport (e.g. TCP) protocol in mobile environment, models of aggregate traffic between wired-wireless, as well as wireless-wireless networks. Subject of the project is elaboration of a P2P system which, is able to discover different network services in dynamic communication environment Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (5.) • Safety and accounting problems of mobile systems • One of the goals of the research is survey of security requirements of heterogeneous mobile technologies, analyses of efficiency of existing solutions and development of new security solutions and their implementation. Another well fitted area is the development and implementation of charging architecture and methods meeting requirements of the communication market of many actors • The project's attempt is to study mechanisms of authorisation, key distribution and dynamic key change also in such an environment, where great number of users freely come in or leave the system. Besides the copyrights of authors of digital contents should be defended (Digital Right Management (DRM)). According to newest OSA concept the content and network service shall be separated. As a consequence for the user, the operator, the content provider and the authorities need adequate and real-time accounting Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (6.) • Real time multimedia information transfer • Investigation of procedures meeting service quality requirements (QoS) in case of real time data transfer, including inter point-to-point and point-to-multi point QoS investigations as well • Studies on QoS support in heterogeneous mobile network environment and in mixed packet and line switched mobile communication networks are of high importance. One of our target tasks is to set up a real time network radio system, supports radio transfer of video, audio and enriched occasionally by text or facsimile for the public of many people. Our other goal is to build up of such a system which enables real time demand of stored contents (Video on Demand). In both cases important element of the service is securing the quality of the transferred content. Therefore we shall study how the representation of audio and video contents can be optimized Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (7.) • Elaboration of cohesive infrastructures for 3G and B3G systems • Goals of the project are enhancement, research and development of cohesive infrastructure determining in view of telecommunication infrastructure elements, which provide harmony between requirements and possibilities in the area against confidentiality and authority in IP technology, B3G systems and telephone public branch exchange • Goals of the project are basically of two directions: • Development and investigation of AAI - Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) for 3G and B3G systems. • Fitting of IP based telephone public branch exchanges to 3G and B3G systems Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (8.) • Development of mobile applications, investigation of application development and content handling solutions • Development of supporting community and commerce services mobile applications, furthermore investigation of software technologies needed for development of these applications. Introduction of the mobile communication technique and its integration into monitoring, remote checking and diagnosis of industrial objects. Further part task is establishment of content development infrastructure for testbed and application development • Within the project applications are also needed: for approval of testbed, simulation of real traffic situations, investigation of realistic application related problems. We investigate the infrastructure which includes content handling and enables flexible, manifold, multilevel application development (e.g. OSA/Parlay). We pay attention freely programmable operation system (Symbian, MS Smartphone, Linux, etc.) too Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (8.) • Development of mobile applications, investigation of application development and content handling solutions (cont.) • Potentials of integration of mobile techniques by network solutions applied in the process control in the various branches of the industry enables monitoring of the already built in data flow. (e.g. energy substations operated without human supervising, divided type field equipment, tube networks, pumps, boilers, wind power stations, transformers, vessels, wind power stations' parks). The GPS/mobile communication technique built on measuring and control systems of mobile objects (vehicles) shall be completed with assignment to location of diagnostic results (e.g. in diagnostics of railway sections, follow up of transporting hazardous waste vehicles, construction of questionable tachographs it serves safety purposes). In the project integration of mobile tools and process control systems; development of intelligent monitoring and diagnostic functions shall be solved. Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (8.) • Development of mobile applications, investigation of application development and content handling solutions (cont.) • The content infrastructure standing behind the valuable for the user applications is the part of new but identifiable individually part of the entire infrastructure. Elements of content infrastructure are among others data and procedures serving for identification of partners and resources (address stores, name fields etc.); catalogues assisting orientation in data stores, meta databases (standard data, coded into structure semantic information, data organized in hierarchy or nets, meta-data structures of a content infrastructure make possible search able and coherent on application level the contents); security and confidentiality resources (such is the infrastructure of certifications, digital signature and other authorization procedures, white and black lists of reliable and non-reliable sources, for example for spam-filtering, other data of authorized locations, virus databases etc.) Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (8.) • Development of mobile applications, investigation of application development and content handling solutions (cont.) • Application - distribution strategy of the future shall be of multi-platform like (Cross-media publishing, Create once, publish everywhere). Obvious test application areas: education and certain payable student services, part of which serves elaboration of broadcasting and interactive multimedia possibilities in experimental way and their demonstration (applications enabling mobile access to information network of the university e.g. „wireless room", wireless student administration, depending on location connected to university area services, broadcasting and archiving of lectures). The artificial speech functions are also included into access techniques (e.g. automatic text read out, control by speech, speech recognition etc.), which enables also integration of handicapped people into the information society Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (9.) • Studies on user’s behaviour • Preliminary goal of the project is wide investigation of user's behaviour and use of results in other projects of the Centre. • Spread of various mobile technologies affects and changes behaviour of users. The Internet and the next generation mobile technologies have been bringing unimaginable before applications and services, these will affect significantly behaviour of the users, again. Behaviour of individual users is different, but contain similar elements too on daily, weekly or even yearly level, which can be shown up by appropriate methods (e.g. sociological, network analyses, multivariable statistical and data mining methods). Knowledge of these behaviour samples promotes identification of various user groups and providing suitable for them electronic services and required content, prediction of expected acceptance of new applications. Handling of more and more complicate end equipment can be provided only by adequate multimodal user surfaces. Hungarian-Japanese Conference

MIKProfessional program (10.) • Development of telecommunication service models, formation of common platform • Goals of the project are support of realizing software for infocommunication services and intelligent mobile functions based on visual modeling languages with use of generative techniques, and establishment of uniform software platform for various mobile software systems • Tasks of the project are essentially two-fold: development of meta-modeling technique providing fast constructing of visual languages, flexibly satisfying the continuously developing requirement system, and realization of automatic code generation for tasks formulated on level of these visual languages (Domain Specific Languages, DSL). We wish to provide this by elaboration of adequate development methodology, meta-modeling techniques included into effective frame system.
