  2. The Early Years • Dave was born in Johannesburg, south Africa, in 1967. • His father died in 1977 when Dave was ten years old. • Dave attended school in south Africa, where he, “got more wise about the evils of government, there and in general.”

  3. In The Beginning • The Matthews family moved from South Africa to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1986. • Dave got a job at a local bar called Miller’s where they played live music nightly. • Dave quickly established a foothold in the music scene of Charlottesville, a nice way to start a band.

  4. The Band • The Dave Matthews Band was conceived in 1991 when Dave got together some musicians from Miller’s Bar. • The band consists of five members; Dave Matthews, Stefan Lessard, Carter Beauford, Leroi Moore and Boyd Tinsley.

  5. Inspiration for ManyLeadership Qualities… • Dave loves people, including his mass of adoring fans. • He is very influential when he plays. • He is very diversified, he has many cultural backgrounds and so do his band mates. • He always performs with all his heart and soul and this what I think makes him an excellent leader.
