Using key words • Broad search vs. narrow search • Use different “types” of key words: general, evaluative, topic and subtopic, etc. • Try different numbers of words • Try different combinations • Try with and without “and” or “+” • Avoid using questions, complete sentences, or long phrases • Use synonyms!

Activity: Using Key Words • With your group, create a Google Doc in your shared folder and title it “Key Words” • As a group, come up with key words and synonyms/alternate words related to your topic • Start looking for possible sources using the variety of keywords • Record the search term and the link to the sources you find • Break up library vs. search engine research • Share the doc with me at the end of class
