  1. Surah al Baqarah Ayahs 172 – 176

  2. Ayah 172 O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.

  3. What is tayyibaat? 1. => Clean, wholesome, tasty, good to look at, good in taste, That which is not impure nor filthy. 2. => Secondly it is Halal -> why are we giving this meaning? Because when only Tayyibaat is mentioned, then it includes clean, wholesome, and also halal. Surah al Baqarah: 172 - 176 Lesson 23 2

  4. Four Meanings of Tayyibat

  5. Objectives of Commands

  6. وَاشْكُرُواْ لِلَّهِ Express Gratitude to Allah(s.w.t)

  7. He pleased you, by feeding you; so you please Him by being obedient to Him.

  8. Eat Clean • Reduce simple carbs (i.e. cookies, pastries) • Reduce extra salt and sodium (i.e. chips) • Incorporate more colour into your diet (greens, reds and oranges) • Fruits and veggies as snacks • Eat frequent but small meals • DON’T: crash diet, eliminate a certain food group all together, or starve

  9. Diet in the Qu’ran

  10. Eating Disorders • Eating healthy makes us feel good; know your eating habits before they become into eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, obesity)

  11. Ayah 173 He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah . But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

  12. Dies a death • Animal dies a natural death • Animal not slaughtered properly • Animal is slaughtered but the blood is not taken out properly • Not slaughtered by a muslim or ppl of the book (while following the conditions) 1. That animal which dies a natural death. 2. That animal which is not slaughtered - it is killed in any other manner, or that it falls from a height, dies in a fight, etc. 3. The animal is slaughtered, but the blood does not flow out of its body. 4. Or an animal that is not slaughtered by a Muslim, or the People of the Book.

  13. Exceptions Locust Fish

  14. الدَّمَ Flowing Blood Exceptions Liver Spleen

  15. وَلَحْمَ الْخِنزِيرِ

  16. وَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ 1. The blood is flowed 2. Allah’s name is mentioned. 3. It has been slaughtered by either a Muslim, or the People of the Book. These conditions must be met in order for the animal to be considered Halal.

  17. فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلاَ عَادٍ فَلا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ

  18. PERFECT DAYS FOR PERFECT WORSHIP • First 10 Days of DhulHijjah • The Prophet SAW said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Bukhaari)

  19. What Should I Do? • Perform Hajj • Make Dua and have a sincere intention to try and go to Hajj next year • Those of us who were not invited to the House of Allah this year, there are still many, many good deeds that one can do and earn the Pleasure of Allaah.

  20. To Do: Fasting • Fast all nine days and especially fast the Day of 'Arafah • The Prophet SAW used to fast on the ninth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah and he said: "Fasting the Day of 'Arafah (ninth Dhul-hijjah) is an expiation for (all the sins of) the previous year and an expiation for (all the sins of) the coming year." (Muslim)

  21. To Do: Dhikr • The Prophet said: “There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allaah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laailaaha ill-Allaah), Takbeer (saying Allaahuakbar) and Tahmeed (saying al-hamduLillaah)." (Ahmad -Saheeh) • Revive the Sunnah of Saying Takbeerat

  22. To Do: Getting up for Tahhajjud • In the last third of every night, Allah Almighty calls out to us, His servants: Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? (Bukhaari, Muslim)

  23. To Do: Seek Repentance • One of the best and most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allaah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin right away because we do not know when we will die, and also because one evil deed leads to another.

  24. To Do: Recite Qu’ran • It is time now to dust off your copy of the Qur'aan • Make it a daily habit, using these 10 days the beginning of a strong and beautiful relationship with it. • Read it with meaning, understand it, and then implement it and change your lives for the better.

  25. To Do: Get the Reward of Hajj • Achieve a similar reward of Hajj in whatever place you may be: • The Prophet SAW said: "Whoever prays Fajr Prayer in congregation, and then sits and remembers Allah until the sun rises, then (after a while) prays two rak’as, he will gain a reward equal to that of making perfect Hajj and Umrah." [He repeated the word "perfect" thrice.] (At-Tirmidhi) Isn't that easy, Alhamdulillah 

  26. To Do: Slaughter an Animal • Ibn Umar said: The Prophet lived in Madeenah for 10 years and every year he slaughtered an animal." (Ahmad-Saheeh by al-Albaani) • Distribute the meat as well amongst family and friends 

  27. To Do: Attend Eid Prayers • Attend the Eid prayer  • Remember that Eid prayer is a form of worship, therefore, we must observe proper hijaab, and be cautious of pre-Eid parties, mixing of men & women, music etc.

  28. To Do: Being Grateful • One of the greatest forms of worshipping AllaahSubhaanahuwaTa'ala is to thank Him, deeply, sincerely and continuously. • Thank Him for ALL that He gave you, the Islaam that He gave you, the very life He gave you. And thank Him for the chance that He gives you in these ten days, to ask for forgiveness and guidance.

  29. To Do: General Good Deeds • We should strive in doing more good deeds in general, because good deeds are beloved by Allaah and will bring us closer to Him. • Praying extra prayers, reading Qur'aan, remembering Allaah, sending Salaams on the Prophet , making dua, giving charity, honoring our parents, upholding ties of kinship, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and other good deeds and acts of worship.

  30. Ayah 174 Indeed, they who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price - those consume not into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment.

  31. Why Do We Hide Truth?

  32. Do we ever hide truth? How? Any examples?

  33. Ayah 175 Those are the ones who have exchanged guidance for error and forgiveness for punishment. How patient they are in pursuit of the Fire!

  34. بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ وَالْعَذَابَ

  35. الضَّلالَةَ الْهُدَى وَالْعَذَابَ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ

  36. Ayah 176 That is [deserved by them] because Allah has sent down the Book in truth. And indeed, those who differ over the Book are in extreme dissension.
