  2. 1. Introduction: • WATER IS THE MOST ABUNDANT LIQUID ON EARTH.

  3. 2. Waterpollution Heavy metals, pathogens and mining cities have caused serious pollution problems for a long time.

  4. 3.Massive and wasteful use of water While most world's poor do not have sufficient water to satisfy their needs, the relatively well-off people consume huge quantities.

  5. 4.Climate change + landslides, floods and droughts

  6. 5.Water scarcity Human activities cause water shortages in three ways: • The population growth. • The wrong use of water. • The lack of equal access to it.

Long-term: • Industrial activity which causes the discharge of pollutants with high concentration of phosphate which over time, will decrease the oxygen in water. • Bad odour of the water besides its dark colour. • Pollution of beaches and water that we drink which can cause serious diseases. • Short-term: • Acid rain which has a pH below the common rain and allows the mobilization of toxic metals besides the acidification of the ground. • Death of animals that get caught by waste we throw. • Oil spills that cause the immediate pollution of the water and the death of animals.

  11. 6.Measures being taken to correct the problem. • Remove phosphates from industrial plants before they reach a lake. • Throwing the hot water that factories use in ponds to cool it and can be reused. • Increase the responsability of oil companies to clean up the oil spills. • Protect coastal areas that are already clean. • Prohibit throwing plastic items from ships. • Using alternative energies. • And of course not to throw rubbish in beaches, lakes or rivers.

  12. 7.Well known case of a measure to correct the problem. One of the most important protocols that have been taken to reduce the pollution not only of the water but of the world is the “Protocol of Kyoto” whose goal is to reduce the release of 6 pollutants gases. Another important protocol about the water is the “Protocol on cooperation in the fight against oil spill” signed in 1983 and entered into force in 1986.
