  7. Discriminatory language… Language that creates or reinforces a hierarchy of differences between people While certain language may appear neutral or unbiased it can actually be discriminatory when you consider the hidden messages behind the words

  10. Language can also discriminate against the listener or reader (not just the subject of the discourse as in the previous examples) • Think of the term bimbo – you need the appropriate social and cultural understanding to understand the term • Activity 2.3
