Testing began last week and will be completed in the next two weeks.  We also have our very important Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Conferences are a wonderful time to familiarize yourself with your child’s teacher, the grade expectations, standards and get a glimpse of where your child spends so much of his or her day. We are hoping for 100% parent participation in conferences this year.  Please stop in to the book fair before or after your conference to purchase a book or two. Books are great stocking stuffers!  This fall we are also stressing the importance of our PBIS character traits: be safe, be respectful, be responsible.  As you tour our building during parent teacher conferences, check out the signs posted that help remind our students what the expectations are around the school and inside the classrooms.  Your support to this positive behavior program will enhance the effects on your child. In the fall we also celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for. I’d like to share that I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to serve the students of Maple Grove.  There is so much potential in each of our students here. It is exciting to see the gains they’re already making this year. Thank you for your continued support. Please contact me if you ever have questions, comments or concerns. Dana Croatt, Ed. Each student will receive a free book valued at $5.00 or less and will be allowed to purchase other books during school hours and during conference times. Like in past years we will have our All for Books donation box set up. Each day student’s are encouraged to bring in change as follows: Monday 11/11 – Pennies Tuesday 11/12 – Nickels Wednesday 11/13 – Dimes Thursday 11/14 – Quarters If we reach our goal of $1000 for All for Books a special surprise awaits our students and staff. Illness If your student has had a fever or thrown up we ask that you keep them home for 24 hours in order to help prevent spreading. Please remember to call the school office (414-541-0600) prior to 9:00am to report any absences. Clothing Accidents sometimes happen at school and extra clothes are needed for those occasions. If you have any extra clothing especially pants we would greatly appreciate the donation. Make sure to check the lost and found table outside of the cafeteria when you are here for conferences as we have a large collection of jackets and sweatshirts.

  3. STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS November 6th and 20th Ice Cream Sale Dates Heavenly Hats Over $200.00 was raised for Heavenly Hats!  The generosity of the families of Maple Groves really shined today! Some students’ family donated up to $8 so their child could wear a hat that day! Food Drive Student Council will be sponsoring a food drive to help other Greenfield families that are in need this holiday season. Please bring in non-perishable food items from November 18th– November 22nd. Prizes will be awarded to the top three classes that bring in the most items. Guidance at a Glance The November Character Trait of the Month is Responsibility. Students can show responsibility by being accountable, dependable, and contentious. Students can think before they act, show self-control, plan ahead, persevere, and be a role-model. Families can help shape our Maple Grove students’ character by discussing these ideas, drawing pictures of what responsibility looks like, reading books that showcase responsibility and encouraging children to have responsibilities at home. Each staff member (not just classroom teachers) will have the opportunity present a Responsibility Award to a student who they have seen be a model of responsibility all month. During classroom guidance lessons, students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade will begin to focus on friendships and peer relationships. Students in grades 3 through 5 will focus on interpersonal skills and conflict resolution. Watch for classroom guidance activities to come home with your child. Thank you! 4. Coming Soon: Maple Grove’s Second Annual Knowledge-a-Thon One of our main needs at Maple Grove is technology. Thankfully we have been able to add a Smart Board to each K-5 classroom. Our goal is to add even more technology to our classrooms. In partnership with the district technology initiatives our goal for this year is to add document cameras or possibly tablets/laptops to each classroom. The Knowledge-a-Thon is designed to be a low-cost fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to our school for technology.  Students answer questions that are developed in the classroom during school hours.  Every student participates by answering questions in a positive, fun environment on November 20th during school hours.  Students ASK for donations November 6th-20th.  Students RETURN their donations/pledges to school by November 29th. Please watch for Knowledge-a-Thon packets to come home on Wednesday, November 6th. Thank you for continuing to support your son or daughter and the goals of our building!
