  1. Team learning • The discipline that puts theory into practice and takes learning organization from concept to reality • The intelligence of the team exceed the intelligence of the individual in the team • Dealing with current reality : conflict and defensive routines • Teams develop extraordinary capacities for coordinated action. • The synergy between dialogue and discussion

  2. Comparing discussion and dialogue • Dialogue is diverging. It is about exploring the nature of choice, seeking a richer grasp of complex issue. • Discussion is converging. It is about making a decision or course of action. • Each has own goals and ground rules.

  3. Purpose of dialogue To create an atmosphere in which we can perceive what really matters to most of us. Doing so gives us access to a much finer and subtler kind of intelligence. “ the intelligence of the heart” Ownership of the process and outcomes-we are responsible for what is happening.

  4. Purpose of dialogue • To reveal incoherence in our thought • People become observer of their own thinking and the collective nature of thought Our thinking is producing consequences that we don’t really want • It has to do with building a safe container or space for a group to operate. Fear and judgment must give way

  5. Balance advocacy and inquiry • Advocacy • Making your own thinking process visible. “This is how I arrive at such point of view. Is there any area I have not considered ?” • Inquiry • Making other people’s thinking process visible “What leads you to say or believe this ?”

  6. Guidelines • Confidentiality • Use “I” statements • Silence as participation • Speak when moved to speak • Suspend judgment • Inclusiveness With the help of a facilitator who holds the context of dialogue.
